Rapinoe had a brief stint playing for Sydney Football Club FC (Australian W-League) in 2011 before going back to the United States. The next team she joined is the Seattle Washington Sounders Women. They are now she is with the Sound FC. Rapinoe lived in France for the 2013 soccer season. She joined Seattle Reign FC, now OL Reign in the National Women's Soccer League NWSL that had been formed following the breakup of WPS. Rapinoe was one of the league's top scorers, and she ultimately became captain. Her first FIFA Women's World Cup was in 2011. Her contributions was instrumental in helping with the U.S. Women's World Cup achieve successive titles between 2015 and the year 2019. In 2018, she was named cocaptain. Rapinoe was the one who scored two goals for the United States in the 4-3 victory over Australia in the Olympic bronze medal match at Tokyo in 2020 because of the COVID-19 virus which Japan was forced to postpone to 2021 due to the effects of this pandemic, also took home the gold medal in Tokyo in the year 2016.
